A Chinese company that was carrying knockoff Marc Jacobs “The Tote Bag” handbags has sued the designer after the luxury brand removed the cheaper version from Amazon.
As The Fashion Law Blog reports, a lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by Guangzhou Jiao Ling Wan Trading Co., which owns and operates Amazon stores called Lingwanus.
Since October, Lingavans, which gained followers on fashion social media posts as a big win for budget-conscious fashionistas, has been unable to sell the $55 dupe bag. At a glance, the bags are actually very similar to the $395 designer bags described as “coveted” on the Marc Jacobs website.
Described as “an interesting turn of events” by the fashion news site that typically writes about designers suing companies that commit fraud, the Chinese company is claiming that Marc Jacobs committed “trademark infringement. made fraudulent claims, which ultimately led to Amazon’s removal [its] Listing for three handbag variations”, which harmed her business relationship with the online retailer.
