“Jurassic Park” star Jeff Goldblum gave some struggling actors a chance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday when he invited them on the show and asked them to impersonate him in a short comedy segment that helped them reach the $1,401 acting-earnings threshold to receive health insurance through the Screen Actors Guild.
Mr. Goldblum introduced the actors, all wearing gray wigs and thick, dark-framed glasses, giving them the opportunity to speak some of the dialogue while imitating him during the broadcast, which helped them bridge the gap in actor salaries thanks to access to union insurance.
According to Deadline magazine, the segment came after a casting notice on the show required hundreds of actors to meet the $1,401 requirement. One of the actors who took part had a fee of only $356 below the threshold.
Speaking on the unflattering side of acting, Mr. Goldblum told the audience that “most actors” are just like him … “working class people just trying to get by.”
