While pet insurance is meant to keep pet owners out of trouble with unexpected veterinarian bills, Consumer Reports found that most pet insurance customers are not happy.
In a recent survey, more than 2,000 members shared their experiences with pet insurance, including everything from what was covered to the premiums they paid and the claims process to get reimbursed. Overall, most of the results found that insurance companies were in the middle when it came to services provided, at an average of $47 per month.
Six insurance providers earned overall satisfaction scores in the mid-range and two were put in the doghouse with unfavorable ratings.
Consumer Reports says self-insurance is the way to go: Put money into a high-yield savings account every month to cover emergencies.
